Personal Appeal from Women & Cancer Program

Dear Friends,

Today we write a personal appeal to you to consider supporting the Women & Cancer Program (WCP) of the Heartwood Foundation. The WCP has touched our hearts; we hope it's mission touches yours.

This unique program offers free integrative care, classes and educational programs to lower income women with cancer living in the Chicagoland area. Research has shown that integrative therapies provide relief from cancer treatment side effects, increase the immune system, and help relieve the anxiety that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Last year over 90% of the participants in our program reported a decrease in anxiety, depression and insomnia. More than 50% of the women experienced a decrease in pain and treatment-related neuropathy.

In light of State budget constraints this year, the funding which previously supported this program is no longer available. To ensure that this program survives and continues to serve women in need, I urge you to give whatever you can to help sustain this vital program.

• Your gift of $350 provides a woman with 1-1/2 months of weekly individual integrative therapy: acupuncture, massage, psychotherapy.

• Your gift of $150 provides a woman with 3 months of weekly classes in her choice of: yoga, tai chi, qi gong, meditation, exercise. 

Please consider giving to the Women & Cancer Program and keep these important health services availble for women in our area who need care.
