The Heartwood Foundation Women & Cancer Program provides free holistic healthcare services to women of limited financial means throughout the Chicagoland area.

Our 2010 Program Focus: Breast Cancer

Great News! We are proud to announce that Heartwood Foundation is the recipient of a community grant from the Ticket for the Cure lottery fund, a State of Illinois program designed to provide assistance to low income women with breast cancer. The program is managed by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Women’s Health. This grant will enable us to expand the Women and Cancer Program to locations throughout greater Chicago.

Our program this year will be offering women with breast cancer free supportive therapies including acupuncture, bodywork and psychotherapy, as well as classes in meditation, tai chi and yoga. These therapies benefit the physical, mental and spiritual health of women living with cancer at any stage in progression. Studies have shown these treatments to be helpful in:

  • Boosting the immune system
  • Managing the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation
  • Easing anxiety and fear
  • Alleviating pain

Our goal is to facilitate health and well-being for everyone, regardless of limited financial means. We serve a diverse, multi-cultural population and strive to accommodate women in treatment locations throughout Chicago and the surrounding communities.

There is healing in the laying on of hands; in the letting go of fear, in asking for help, in silence, celebration, prayer.

There is healing in speaking the truth and in keeping still, in seeking sunlight and not shunning struggle.

Healing is a birthright and a grace.
